The parents of a 5-year-old boy from Illinois, whose body was found wrapped in plastic, have been charged with the boy's brutal murder.

Before his death, little Andrew AJ Freund suffered years of beatings and abuse, according to court documents cited by CNN, The Chicago Tribune and other media. The boy's parents - Andrew Freund Sr, 60, and his mother J oAnn Cunningham, 35 - forced him to take a cold shower, where they beat him wildly, according to the same sources. The autopsy confirmed that the little girl victim died of head trauma caused by heavy blows.

The Cristal Lake Police Department and the FBI announced Wednesday that they had found the boy's body that had been reported missing by his father on Thursday of the previous week. Police arrested the boy's parents after finding evidence on their cell phones that led them to find the body, the Cristal Lake police chief announced at a press conference.

Both are in prison on $ 5 million bail and face first-degree murder charges, among others. His lawyers have not yet answered People's calls. "AJ is no longer suffering and her killers have been brought to justice," Black said during the press conference.

A document obtained by People indicates that the Illinois Department of Children and Families had removed Andrew from his parents' home shortly after his birth because he had traces of opiates on his body.

The boy returned to the family home when he was 18 months old, but state officials visited his parents 17 times over the years, local channel ABC 7 reported.
