It was not the end of the party he had planned for his wedding day.
A New Jersey bride was assaulted on the most important date of her life by a 43-year-old man who was staying at the same hotel where the wedding reception was taking place.
According to the police report obtained by People, the incident occurred when the accused, Carlos Mejía, approached the girlfriend - who is not identified - and a group of guests to ask for a cigarette.
When they denied him, always according to the police version, Mejía was enraged and shouted obscenities at the girlfriend and the guests, before retiring to her room.
Outraged by the insults, the girlfriend accompanied by other guests followed him and knocked on the door of Mejía's room to ask her to apologize for her reaction. To his surprise, the accused abruptly left the room armed with a sword, which he brandished as he made threats against the bride.
Mejía managed to cut the young woman's arm before being reduced by those present and then detained by hotel security, who held him until the authorities appeared.
According to the New York Daily News, the agents who arrested Mejía said he looked drunk or under the influence of some illegal substance. After his arrest, several charges were brought against him, including possession of weapons, making terrorist threats and aggravated assault resulting in injury.
The injuries sustained by the bride in his left arm were not fatal, but they did ruin a day that should have been a party. Of course, you will never forget it.
The prosecutor in charge of the indictment assured NJ Avdance Media that he had never had a similar case.
