Almost a year after the devastating passage of Hurricane Maria through Puerto Rico, a series of photographs have sparked outrage on social networks, since they show a pile with thousands of water bottles that were never delivered to the victims and that They still rest at the San Juan International Airport.
The striking images were shared by photographer Abdiel Santana and in them you can see the impressive number of bottles piled up on one of the runways of the island's important air terminal.
"Believe it or not, almost a million boxes of water that were never delivered to the people of Puerto Rico, in the face of the emergency of Hurricane Maria. Will there be someone who can explain this?" Santana commented with the photos, which as He assures them they were taken this past Tuesday, September 11.
According to statements delivered to the CBS network by the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the bottles were sent to help the victims, further confirming that they have been in that place for about a year. The report adds that the agency delivered the water to the island's government, which was in charge of its distribution.
The reports that have denounced the situation have emphasized questioning why the water was never distributed despite the difficult situation that millions of people lived after the passage of Maria, now with the aggravating circumstance that they are no longer even suitable for human consumption.
Given the delicate complaint, the Spanish chef José Andrés, who has been one of the celebrities who has actively participated in the work to help the victims, assured that he knew the situation beforehand and demanded responses from the Governor of Puerto Rico.
"My teams … knew about this. First they told us that they could not be used. Months later, the water was no longer good for consumption. We had to 'buy' water because they did not want to give us. Ricardo Rossello, we need an official and independent investigation", The renowned chef expressed through his Twitter account.
