The mystery that was eating away at residents of a Texas town after the appearance of a video of a woman wearing shackles on her wrists and "ringing a bell and then disappeared" has been solved.

The woman has been found safe and sound, but her boyfriend committed suicide, revealing that the mysterious lady was the victim of a horrible case of domestic abuse.

The mystery originated when, on August 24, at 3:20 am local time, a woman rang the doorbell of a house in the Sunrise Ranch Subdivision, in the town of Montgomery, apparently asking for help. After pressing the button, the woman disappeared. The moment was captured on video by the electronic doorbell of the house.

The next day, the homeowner reviewed the clip and discovered the strange scene also noting that the woman was wearing a kind of handcuffs on her wrists.

The incident was immediately reported to the Montgomery Sheriff's Office, which, house by house, combed the area to try to locate the woman, spreading the clip through networks and prompting the population to locate the stranger.

The mystery increased because there were no reports of missing people that fit the description of the woman.

Finally, this Wednesday the 32-year-old woman - whose identity has not been revealed - was located "safe and sound", although the way in which the authorities were able to find her was not detailed.

That same day, police released a statement to announce that the woman's 49-year-old boyfriend had shot himself. "Before doing so, he left several notes in connection with the woman in the shackles," he said to himself. "The man said this had been done in response to the national attention that had been given to the situation, among other things not yet disclosed."

For his part, 2nd Lt. Scott Spencer said the woman was not present when the man took his own life.

Police said they are investigating why the woman had shackles on her wrists. "Obviously we want to know why the woman was using those objects and what were the circumstances surrounding this," said the second lieutenant.

Police spokesmen confirmed to People that the woman is now in Dallas and that as soon as possible she will be questioned face to face regarding what happened.
