The successful Google engineer Michael Sayman, of Peruvian and Bolivian roots, turns 22 today. And to celebrate this special date, Sayman contacted People en Español to tell the world his truth: the young man who became a millionaire creating apps and also worked for Facebook is gay - and he no longer wants to hide it.

"I really believe this will help other Latinos who are going through the same situation," revealed the young man. “I am afraid that despite my accomplishments as the youngest engineer hired by Facebook at 17 and the youngest product manager at Google at 21, there is still a voice in my mind saying, 'No one will see more. beyond that you are gay. ' I think it is time to prove to others that it is okay and that you can be successful without being afraid of being who you are.”

Although he has always supported his family since he was a teenager - helping them out of an economic crisis when their parents lost their jobs and their home - Sayman admits that he fears how his loved ones will react to his sexual orientation.

This secret, which he kept for years for fear of rejection, is one that he no longer wants to keep quiet about. "I am gay and coming from a Hispanic background, I decided to stay in the closet [for years] because I was always afraid to share that about myself, especially because thousands of young people in Latin America send me messages saying that I am a role model for them."

For his birthday today, instead of accepting gifts, Sayman will ask his friends to donate money to the non-profit organization The Trevor Project, which helps people in the LGBT community in crisis situations and at risk of suicide.
