Oklahoma Girl Was Stabbed On Her First Day Of School

This week schools started a new school year. But for a 14-year-old from Oklahoma, the day didn't go as expected after a classmate got up and stabbed her repeatedly during an assembly at Luther High School on Thursday. The girl was flown by helicopter to a hospital, a spokesman for the local sheriff said.

Mark Opgrande, a spokesman for the Oklahoma County Sheriff, said the 14-year-old unidentified suspect is in custody.

“They were having a school-wide assembly… when for some reason, a student allegedly stood up and started stabbing a student. Right now we have no reason, said Opgrande.

Opgrande said the girl, who was also not identified, was in stable condition after being stabbed "several times … five, six, seven times" by the boy. Opgrande said he did not know what weapon was used, m according to The New York Post.

Luther Police Chief David Randall said there was no known relationship between the boy and the girl, nor any indication that they knew each other.

According to Randall, the boy "was detained and detained by students and staff" after the incident and was arrested for assault and battery with a deadly weapon. The boy was transported to the Luther Police Department and his father requested that a lawyer be present before being questioned.

However, Randall said the boy made statements while being transported.

"During the trip, he let out some nonsensical statements," Randall said. "He said he had been hired by someone, but he couldn't discuss it."

The case is still under investigation.
