According to The Boston Globe, on October 20 the young Anok Yai attended a student event at Howard University in Washington DC, when a photographer identified on her social networks as The Sunk, portrayed her. Soon after, she shared those images on her Instagram account, unaware that she was launching a new model to fame.

"My phone started ringing quickly for quite a long time," the young woman told the newspaper. "Honestly at first I thought someone had made a meme or something of my own."
Yai, who is in his second year of biochemistry at Plymouth State University in New Hampsshire, also posted the photos taken at that event on his Instagram account, which have also had thousands of "Likes".
