24 people dead and 14 wounded is the partial balance left by a serious traffic accident that occurred in the early hours of this Tuesday at kilometer 8 of the Pifo-Papallacta highway, near the city of Quito, Ecuador.
As revealed by the authorities of the South American country, in the strong collision, which is estimated to have occurred around 2:30 am, a bus carrying an international route and an SUV-type truck were involved.
Reports add that the bus, belonging to the company Cotrans Especiales del Oriente, was completing a journey that started in the city of Neiva in Colombia and had its final destination in the Ecuadorian capital. 23 people of Colombian nationality and 10 Venezuelans were traveling in the vehicle.
Although the authorities are in the middle of the investigation to determine the causes that could have caused the accident, residents of the area where the incident occurred have revealed that the bus first hit the truck, then overturned and slid without control by several meters.
The wounded were seriously ill, we went out to help them. There were people alive and others who died,”a witness revealed to the Ecuadorian newspaper El Comercio. Two minors who were traveling in the van lost their lives due to the severity of their injuries. The other 22 people who died were adults traveling on the bus.
Details of the accident add that after the impact with the truck, the bus crashed with several houses that lined the road on which the accident occurred. The wounded were rushed to nearby medical centers, while residents of the area had to wake up to the sad panorama of the bodies resting on the roadway.
