Changes on Univision continue. The chain's new executive director, Vincent Sadusky, sent a memo to the chain's employees, warning: "Difficult days await us as the company adjusts." In the memo, which Univision shared with People en Español, Sadusky acknowledges "that there is enough anxiety" about the transformations that are coming for Univision Communications Inc (UCI) and that he has formulated a "new strategy for the future."

Sadusky, who replaced Randy Falco after his surprise resignation in June, adds: “UCI has done many experiments in recent years to find new avenues for growth. Some have worked; others do not. One of the benefits of coming to a company with a new perspective is that it is easier to clearly examine, without emotion or history, all of your efforts. In doing so, it became clear to me that many of these new ideas had consumed our resources disproportionately, while some of our core activities had a significant lack of resources.”

The executive admits that the cuts will be necessary. “Today we are announcing a plan designed to rejuvenate and revitalize our company with renewed dedication to our core mission of serving the Hispanic community in the United States. This does not mean that cuts are not forthcoming. In fact, in the coming days there will be some cuts across the company, and unfortunately some of our dedicated friends and colleagues will be stepping down from ICU positions. Although it is difficult to lose valuable employees, I want to assure you that our goal here is not simply to reduce resources across the company, but rather, to reallocate resources to increase our strength where it is needed,”he reports.

Several layoffs have already been reported this week. These include Chilean meteorologist Paola Elorza from Noticias 23 in Miami, Venezuelan health and lifestyle expert from Primer Impacto Cecilia Ramírez Harris and Dominican correspondent for Noticiero Univision María Eugenia Payán. The network's executive team has also had significant changes with the recent departures of chief executive officer of content Isaac Lee, Univision chief revenue officer Tonia O'Connor and chief programming officer Lourdes Diaz. Will we see more internal changes or program cancellations in the coming weeks? Time will tell!

Sadusky concluded his memorandum with a message of hope and celebrating the chain's achievements. “I truly believe this is the new starting point for one of the truly terrific media franchises in the United States. We are an excellent company, but like all great companies, we sometimes lose our focus and our momentum. That changes today, "he says. "Our best days are yet to come and I look forward to working together to take advantage of our opportunities and produce results."
