Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte has been suspended from swimming competitions for 14 months, after posting a photo on social media that shows him receiving an intravenous infusion (IV infusion) this year, the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USED by his acronym in English), reports People.

A statement that he disclosed on his USADA website says that Lochte published an image dated May 24, which gave rise to an investigation reported by People. The part indicates that Lochte received an "intravenous infusion of permitted substances in an infusion clinic in a volume greater than 100 mL in a 12-hour period without a so-called Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE)," said USADA. That is, without an exemption for therapeutic use.

People report that these types of infusions are "prohibited at all times"; unless they are received as part of or in connection with treatment or precedent in a hospital, or if a TUE or permit has been requested and has been approved, the note stresses.

As reported by People, Lochte's sanction or prohibition will be applied retroactively from the day the photo was published in May.

Following the suspension, the 33-year-old athlete will not be able to compete in national championships, which would begin this week, as reported by ESPN reports People. USADA said the athlete followed the orders of the investigation. The image in question showed Lochte with his wife Karla Rae Raid, while they received the IVs.
