Parents of a baby who died hours after birth pleaded guilty to her death Monday, according to The Associated Press. Sarah Mitchell, 25, and Travis Lee Mitchell, 22, were members of the Followers of Christ church in Oregon, which denies medical care and promotes the powers of prayer to heal.

The parents did not take their daughter to the doctor, causing her death. The baby, who was named Gennifer, was born prematurely with his twin Evelyn. Fortunately after Gennifer's death, authorities were able to save the life of Evelyn, who was having difficulty breathing. Sarah did not know that she was expecting twins or when the girls would be born because the young mother chose not to have prenatal care.

In court, it was stated that Gennifer had been born with breathing difficulties and that she went like this for several hours without going to the hospital. Church members prayed for the girl and put their hands on the sick baby with the intention of healing her, but no one called 911.

The twins Evelyn and Gennifer were born on March 5, 2017 at their grandparents' house. Gennifer died of "complications after being born prematurely." The Mitchells were sentenced to nearly seven years in prison, according to the AP.

Parents can receive visits in prison from the 16-month-old little Evelyn, the baby who survived and now lives with foster parents, according to local newspaper The Oregonian.
