A 44-year-old woman protesting President Donald Trump's immigration policies was identified as the person who climbed the base of the Statue of Liberty on July 4.
Therese Patricia Okoumou, a native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a resident of Staten Island caused a sensation when Wednesday afternoon began to climb the historic statue - located Liberty Island, in the bay of New York - before the thousands of visitors to the site. Without the help of picks or shovels, the woman caused amazement when she reached the foot of the sculpture.
Multiple witnesses shared videos and photos of the tiny figure of the woman on her ascent and of the New York police helicopters that immediately began to fly over the area.
