A crew member on a flight that arrived at New York's John F. Kenney International Airport attempted to smuggle nine pounds of cocaine into the United States through packages tied to his legs.

Customs officers informed Fox News that Hugh Hall, a flight attendant for Fly Jamaica Airways from Montego Bay, Jamaica, attempted to clear customs and was taken to a private room to be searched. Hall attempted his feat on March 17, the day that St. Patrick's Day is celebrated, authorities said.

According to officials, four packages containing a white, cocaine-positive powder were found taped to Hall's legs. The street value of the drug calculated by the officers was approximately $ 160,000.

Hall was arrested for drug trafficking and was turned over to Homeland Security.

In the past few weeks, two other incidents have been reported in which several people have tried to enter cocaine into the United States through the JFK airport by taping it on their legs.

Fly Jamaica told the Daily Mail portal: “The individual, Mr. Hugh Hall, was a flight attendant for Fly Jamaica Airways. The airline condemns their actions."

"Drugs are a scourge in society. Drug smuggling and smugglers are a curse to the aviation industry. We have no additional information to add to what has been released. The case is now in the hands of the United States Attorney's Office."
