A California police officer became one of the criminals he is pursuing, after requesting sex from a minor.

Aiming to catch criminals who take advantage of technology to abuse minors, a 20-year-old student created a fake account on a digital platform and used the new Snapchat filter to become a 16-year-old girl by name. Esther.

According to reports, the student named Ethan created an account on the Tinder app and posed as a 16-year-old girl with agent Robert Davies.

The police announced that the young man and his agent began to communicate in different digital platforms last May, until they ended up sending messages through Snapchat. According to the authorities, Davies knew that he was exchanging messages with an apparent minor.

After the talks, the young student was able to determine Davies's identity, so he reported the situation to the police. The 40-year-old agent was arrested last Thursday on charges of communicating with a minor with the intention of committing sexual acts.

"This alleged conduct, if true, does not reflect what we stand for as a department and is in conflict with the principles of our department and our profession," Chief of Police Susan Manheimer said in a statement.

According to the investigation, Davies was outside of his work hours in another county when contact with the young man began.

For his part, the student commented that he carried out this “experiment” because he declared himself a “concerned citizen”.
