The shocking case of a mother accused of incest by marrying her son first and then her daughter, and who shook Oklahoma, has come to an end.

On Tuesday, Patricia Ann Spann, 45, admitted to Stephen County District Tax Court that she and her 26-year-old daughter, Misty Velvet Dawn Spann, had married in March 2016.

The woman confirmed that the wedding was held in the town of Lawton, before at least two witnesses, and that they subsequently moved to Duncan as a couple. The link between the two women took place a year and a half after the state of Oklahoma legalized same-sex marriage, according to reports from The Oklahoman newspaper.

Spann admitted to the felony charges and will now have to spend two years in prison, after which he must serve an eight-year probation and appear on a sex offender registry. The woman must also pay $ 1,500 in fines plus another $ 1,200 for other items.

In August 2016, the relationship between mother and daughter was revealed when the police received an alert of child abuse. In October 2017, a judge ordered the dissolution of the marriage, determining that the mother had induced "her daughter to marry through fraud."

Both were arrested and charged with incest. In November, the young woman was sentenced to 10 years probation, but the ruling was dissolved after it was determined that Oklahoma does not allow deferred convictions. Misty will receive a new sentence in the next few days.

Before marrying his own daughter, Spann had married one of his sons, then 18 years old. In 2010 the young man asked a judge to annul the wedding, alleging incest.

The defendant then declared that she had lost custody of her children years ago and that she had married one of them to avoid "being called by the army." Regarding the marriage with her daughter, Spann declared that they were separated, but that in 2014 they met again "and we immediately liked each other."
