At least one person dead is the balance left by a train accident involving members of the United States Congress, including Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Paul Ryan.
The accident would have occurred at 11:20 am when the Amtrak company train was traveling through Albemarle County in the state of Virginia. As confirmed by CNN through a report on its online site, the incident occurred when the locomotive collided with a truck that was on the railroad tracks.
“Today's incident was a terrible tragedy. We are grateful to the people who attended the emergency, we pray for the victims and their families. We must have them in our thoughts at this time,”wrote the president of the chamber through his Twitter account.
Additional information from the news media adds that four more people were injured after the strong shock and were taken to nearby medical centers to receive care.
"The president is aware of the situation in Virginia and is receiving updates," revealed in White House press secretary Sarah Sanders. “There is a confirmed death and a person with serious injuries. Among the members of Congress there was nobody with serious injuries, "he added.
Members of Congress traveling on the train were heading to a Republican party member retreat at the luxurious The Greenbrier resort, located in the city of White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia.
