Pope Francis makes history again.

The Supreme Pontiff held a wedding at 36,000 feet for two flight attendants in a LATAM Airlines plane that was flying over Chile.

The blessed? Paula Podest Ruíz, 39, and Carlos Ciuffardi Elorriga, 41, had been civilly married eight years ago. But apparently, the couple could not celebrate their wedding through the church in their hometown, Santiago, Chile, since an earthquake that struck the city that year destroyed the temple.

As reported by the BBC, it was Pope Francis himself who suggested that the brief ceremony be performed on his short flight from Santiago to the city of Iquique in northern Chile.

The Catholic wedding was held in mid-flight, inviting the airline manager as a witness. The images of the emotional moment went viral after CBS News correspondent Steve Dorsey sent them through the social network Twitter. Among them, the couple contracting nuptials and the marriage certificate handwritten by a cardinal and signed by the spouses and their groomsman.
