After living almost 30 years in the United States, Jorge García had to say goodbye on Monday at the Detroit airport to his wife and their two children, who do not know when they will be able to meet with the undocumented immigrant again.

Garcia, 39, crossed the border illegally when he was a minor at the hands of a relative who brought him from his native Mexico. In these three decades he raised a family with his two children and his wife, the three American citizens, and never had a problem with the law.

Garcia, who was deported on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, had had an order to leave the country since 2009, but under the administration of President Barack Obama, he had managed not to apply it.

With Donald Trump's arrival in the White House, as has happened in many other cases, things changed. The new immigration officials decided to execute the order against García.

The Garcias claim that for years they tried to regularize Jorge's immigration status and that more than $ 125,000 was spent on lawyers to get it, according to the Detroit Free Press.

All of the family's appeals for permission to be given in what Congress is discussing possible immigration reform failed.

According to immigration laws, Garcia could be barred from entering the United States for 10 years, suggesting that his family will have to live without the father's presence for a long time.
