The We Are All Human Foundation (WAAH) released a new version of the official Spanish translation of the United States national anthem to pay tribute to the contribution of the Hispanic community in the fight against COVID-19.
The new version of the song is performed by Puerto Rican singer Jeidimar Rijos, winner of the reality show La Voz last year, who in turn has expressed the honor that this opportunity to promote the work of Latinos represents for her.
The director and founder of the NGO, Claudia Romo Edelman, explained that this Spanish version is a "treasure" that represents Hispanics in the United States, who are Americans like the rest and who work in important social and economic areas.
“It is now especially relevant because Hispanics are disproportionately affected by COVID-19 and are also disproportionately exposed, as we are not only truckers, medical workers, and food producers, but also a significant portion of workers in services that have been fired from hotels, restaurants and small businesses, he said in a statement.
The Spanish version of the national anthem The Star-Spangled Banner was produced in 1945 by government instructions during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The initiative responded to its Good Neighbor policy with Latin America with the idea that the hymn be sung and shared on foreign soil.
The launch of "The Starry Banner" is an important part of a long-term initiative of the Hispanic Star program, a platform focused on uniting Hispanics and celebrating their contributions in the United States.
