A Florida boy died after receiving a scratch from a bat with rabies.
Six-year-old Ryker Roque became ill with rabies, allegedly after being scratched by the sick animal. The minor was taken to an Orlando hospital, where he was receiving experimental treatment for the disease, EFE explained.
EFE indicated that the father of the minor Henry Roque, confirmed to the local station NBC 6 the death of his son. Ryker was treated under the so-called Milwaukee Protocol. It was created by physician Rodney Willoughby, a specialist at a Wisconsin children's hospital, and is based on sedation and drugs to fight viruses or antivirals.
But how did the boy come into contact with the bat? Ryker's father had found the sick bat and put it in a bucket. Henry Roque explained to his son that he could not touch the animal; that it did not do so under any circumstances exposes EFE. However, the little boy did not follow his father's instructions.
When Ryker reached into the bucket where the sick bat lay, the animal scratched it. Given what happened, the father immediately looked for what to do on Internet portals, indicates EFE. Then, he washed her hands with soap and hot water for five minutes. But, he didn't take him to a medical center right away. Today's portal, cited by EFE, states that it did not consider it serious. However, within a week the boy said that he could not move his fingers and had a headache. Once in the hospital, the father spoke of the bat's scratch. EFE reports that rabies is a lethal disease.
