The family of a young aspiring personal trainer is devastated after his sudden death from flu complications that unfolded in just a couple of days.

Kyler Baughman's parents told media that the 21-year-old boy had complained of discomfort on December 23 and that he had a runny nose and a mild cough. "[He looked] half exhausted," his mother Beverly Baughman told WPXI. about the visit her son made to her on that occasion. "I think he thought 'I only have the flu, I will be fine, I just have to rest a little,'" he continued.

Baughman worked as a Walmart employee in the town of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, in addition to being employed by a moving service.

According to her mother, on Christmas day she returned to her home to visit but left soon. "As he went to bed and then he continued with his day and that was the day he said his chest hurt," Olivia Marciano, fiancée of the deceased, told the same station.

However, despite his deteriorating health, the young man - who frequently bragged about his bodybuilding trophies and exercise routines - left for work.

By December 27, his situation worsened and the Westmoreland County Clinic Emergency Service was airlifted to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. In less than 24 hours he had died.

"Organ failure due to shock caused by influenza," said Baughman's mother, as if meditating on what had happened. "It just doesn't seem real." Apparently, the young man did not receive the influenza vaccine this year.

Now, the boy's parents are openly talking about the unfortunate story, with the hope that their son's death is not in vain and they can raise awareness of the serious consequences that a poorly treated flu can generate.

"Know your body, don't let things go," said Kyler's father Todd Baughman. "Whenever you have a fever for several days, do not let it pass and take care of it," he added.

"I think he ignored it and thought it was going to go away, like most people," said the mother. "And I think people need to pay more attention to their bodies."
