If this Monday you are looking for some motivation to start your week, you will be inspired by learning the story of Meghan Absten, an American athlete who is breaking barriers after overcoming the tragedy in which she lost one of her limbs.
After participating in the US team in the 2013 paralympics, the young woman is inspiring thousands of people through her YouTube channel where she combines motivational topics with videos and tutorials on how she manages to do her daily activities, such as putting on makeup, putting on clothes, cooking and so on, with just one arm.
While the young woman has found a platform to inspire others by telling her story, the path was not always easy for her and her family after the accident.
“It is crucial that they know that it is a mourning process. My entire mourning process began with a stage of denial. It is like a defense mechanism that the brain uses when something bad happens and it is too much for it,”says Meghan in one of her videos titled Life after amputation. "I remember coming home and seeing myself in the mirror without an arm for the first time and the emptiness in my stomach that I had I have never had again."
Absten lost her left arm at age 14 after being involved in an accident in which an SUV was overturned.
I think what I wanted most was to be normal. I received a lot of attention, and people who felt sorry for me and tried to be my friends because they didn't know how to act towards me and it bothered me,”he says.
After a healing process, the young woman returned to her activities at school and mainly to sports with the help of her coach, Laurie Saunders, who went to a Paralympic coach who later came out to see her run in her first national athletics competition. and paralympics in the United States, where he achieved two silver medals.
