Ricardo Rosselló Asks To Review The Dead List

The governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, released through a statement that asked authorities to review in detail the list of all deaths reported on the island since Hurricane Maria. According to Rosselló so far, the number of victims registered is 64; however the figure is not exact. "We always knew that the death toll from the hurricane was going to increase as we received more confirmed information, without rumors, and this review will guarantee that we have counted everyone correctly," said the president of the Caribbean island. "We also want the most accurate scrutiny, the most accurate explanation of how people lost their lives in order to account for the impact of these storms, and to identify ways that we can avoid future fatalities."

Despite the fact that the death balance includes deaths from heart attacks, suicides or respiratory problems, there are many who say that they are not including all those who perished after the storm due to the deficiencies they suffered.

According to information from the Yahoo portal, a report by researchers, including the director of applied demography at Pennsylvania State University, estimates that there were almost 500 additional deaths during September in Puerto Rico. "Each death is more than a number, and each death must have a name and vital information, and an accurate account of the events related to the death," said the governor. “The official death count on the island seems absurdly low. The American people and its elected officials need the full picture of the damage Maria caused to ensure that the federal government responds appropriately by providing assistance to our compatriots living on the island.”
