Although the girl Izabella Nugent is just 4 years old, she is already a heroine who saved six members of her family and her life from a fire in the apartment in which they were in the East Harlem, New York area.

As reported by the NY Daily News, last Friday around three in the morning, the little girl was sleeping with her younger sister in the house of relatives located on the sixth floor of a condominium building, when she woke up and shouted “¡ Fire! . Her quick reaction saved the lives of everyone in that apartment that night: her mother's sister-in-law, Jennifer Nugent, their three children, ages 4-14, and her boyfriend, José Cid.

The precocious heroine would later comment that when she woke up to feel the fire, she not only screamed what was happening to everyone, she also woke up her little sister Scarlett, and said: "There is a fire, we have to get out now."

The aunt in charge of the girls, Jennifer Nugent, also acted correctly, taking Izabella, Scarlett and their children to the room that had the least smoke and put their heads out the window, allowing them to breathe, in which the firefighters arrived. Meanwhile her boyfriend got hurt breaking the windows of the apartment.

Little Scarlett suffered burns on her right foot, but she left the hospital and is recovering.

Firefighters who pulled the family out of the smoke-filled apartment said the fire was caused by a heater connected to an extension cord. However, a spokesman for the FDNY (New York City Fire Department) said Sunday that the cause had not yet been determined.

Izabella's mother Carmen Nugent, 26, said she and her husband, Chris, were on their way home from work when the incident broke out. The next day, when she walked through the charred remains of the apartment and counted her blessings, she said that her daughter is "a hero."
