A 10-year-old girl was saved from kidnapping thanks to a keyword. Little Madisson Raines and her mother, Brenda James, spoke to Good Morning America about the big scare they went through. Last week Maddison and a friend were walking near a park when a stranger approached the minors in a white truck.

According to the girl, the man covered his face and told Maddison that his brother had had "a serious accident" and his family had ordered him to go and look for her. Madisson asked the stranger for the keyword 'familiar, a word her loved ones had instructed her to say in dangerous situations.

When the stranger couldn't answer what the keyword was, he left the scene in his truck and left the girls safe. Madisson ran to her house and told her grandmother what had happened. "He froze, his face changed," the fifth-grader told GMA. "I was scared because if I had gotten into his truck, I don't know what he would have done to me."

The mother explained to the morning show that they had just implemented the use of a familiar keyword to avoid such situations. According to James, her daughter “can show other children that it's okay if they ask that question and that not everyone you know is your friend. I think children respond better to the advice of other children than to adults. They can understand that they can be brave and smart and run away."

In a Facebook post, Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb celebrated this action by Maddison and his parents that helped prevent a tragedy. "Congratulations to this girl for having a keyword and talking to other children about the dangers of interacting with strangers," she said. "We hope this motivates other parents to have that conversation with their children and create an action plan so that the children know what to do if they are in that situation."

The police Facebook post described the subject who attempted to kidnap the girl as a white man, in his 40s, with a short beard and his vehicle could be a white Ford Explorer.

"Children in the neighborhood said they had seen the vehicle in the area, circulating in the park at several hours of the day," warned the post of the authorities. If anyone has information, call the Pinal County Sheriff's Office at (520) 866-5111.
