Woman Arrested For Cutting Genitalia Of Her Lover

A 26-year-old Argentine woman was arrested after cutting off her lover's penis with a pair of gardening shears.

Brenda Barattini, an architect, attacked the man, named Sergio, 40, on Sunday morning in the city of Córdoba while he slept, according to local press.

The man was rushed to the hospital after losing a large amount of blood. Now, it is in a stable condition, reports the Daily Mail.

According to Barattini's lawyer, she did it in self-defense and to "protect herself from sexual assault," Carlos Nayi told Efe agency.

Police arrested Barattini and said that she confessed to her crime. While the exact circumstances are unclear, officials do not believe Barattini was staying on the man's property before carrying out the attack. Instead, they say that she entered the house in the first hours before mutilating the man.

It is unclear whether doctors were able to locate the man's severed genitalia and whether it will be possible to reconnect them. Reports do not clarify how emergency services were alerted to the attack.

It is also unclear what motivated Barattini to carry out such an attack. Investigations continue, police said.

Barattini was jailed over the weekend in the prison complex in the Cordoba town of Bouwer on charges of "extremely serious injuries".

The Cordoba Police stated that it is "a cutting wound on the penis and testicles."
