A Kansas father accused of walking around with the remains of his wife's body in a refrigerator allegedly took photos of his two daughters with the mother's body before dismembering it in front of them.
Documentation of the case against Justin Rey, 35, released Wednesday provides additional information about what allegedly happened in the days leading up to the defendant's arrest.
Rey faces, among other charges, that of putting the lives of minors at risk, for contributing to deprivation and misconduct of a minor and for abandonment of a corpse.
According to court documents, he told police that his wife Jessica Monteiro Rey had given birth in a hotel bathroom before she died. However, those same documents establish that in another statement, he alleged that he had committed suicide after giving birth.
According to People, after the death of the wife he placed the body on the bed, took photos of the corpse and also took the girls in the same position. Supposedly the defendant, the newborn baby and the other little girl of just 2 years old stayed for two days with the body in the room.
Then, always according to the documents of the case, he placed the body in the bathtub and dismembered it, keeping the major parts in the portable refrigerator. Those that did not fit were discarded, he told the police.
For now, the cause of the mother's death has not yet been publicly clarified. After the father's arrest, the minors were placed in the custody of the authorities.
