A 24-year-old Texas man who admitted to beheading his 21-year-old wife and keeping his head in the freezer pleaded guilty to murder and will spend the next 52 years in prison, People magazine confirmed.

Davie Dauzat pleaded guilty on Friday and a report from the McLennan County District Attorney's office notes that "this plea plea was brought at the request" of the victim's family.

Dauzat admitted in court to having murdered his wife, Natasha Dauzat, 21, in 2016, according to the report.

His body was found in the couple's home in Bellmead with dozens of stab wounds.

The murder, which occurred on August 25, 2016, took place in front of the couple's children, who were 1 and 2 years old at the time, according to the report.

"Although the murderer will spend a lifetime behind bars, the health of the children who witnessed the terrible act must be taken into account," the report continued. "The family and medical professionals were adamant that the little ones could not relive this abominable horror at trial. The family and the district attorney will work together to ensure that the accused spends each of his next 52 years behind bars.”

On the morning of August 25, 2016, the police received a call from Davie's brother, who told investigators that he was concerned about Davie after talking to him on the phone. The brother told police that Davie said "strange things" during the call and asked "mysterious questions."

He stated that he did not know if his brother was drugged or if he was serious.

The police turned up at the Dauzat home, but Davie refused to leave. After a time, the officers were able to convince him to turn himself in. When they managed to enter the house, they found the children unharmed, but covered with their mother's blood.

The medical examiner stated that Natasha had died of "stab wounds, including beheading," according to the complaint.

Davie allegedly admitted to the police that killing his wife was wrong, but later defended his actions by calling the murder "a battle between good and evil," according to the complaint.

Davie allegedly told investigators that he had used drugs prior to the murder, but the complaint does not indicate a substance other than marijuana, which he had smoked with his wife earlier that day.

"This case is a tragic reminder of the real pain caused by domestic violence in our community," according to the report. "We will continue to fight for the victims every day."
