Tuesday afternoon the southern part of Manhattan, New York, was filled with terror. A man driving a vehicle from the Home Depot store traveled 20 blocks from the bike path parallel to the West Side Highway and ran into several people. According to officials, the suspect collided the van with a school bus. Eight deaths and 15 injuries have been reported so far, including two children, according to CNN.

Police officers classified the incident as a terrorist act. Below is the data we have of the person involved, who was identified as Sayfullo Saipov, 29 years old.

  • Saipov was shot by the police and is in hospital.
  • He resides in Tampa Florida.
  • He came to the United States in 2010.
  • The vehicle he was driving was rented in New Jersey.
  • The children from Stuyvesant High School were leaving class.
  • When he got out of the vehicle unharmed, Saipov shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great), as reported by the New York Times.
  • After his arrest, the police recovered two pistols, one of them was a shotgun and the other was similar to the one used in paint ball games, according to various reports.

All victims are male. Six of them died at the scene of the attack and two after being transferred to the hospital in a state of extreme gravity, according to the New York Fire Department.

Despite the attack, much like the one that has occurred in many cities around the world in recent years, authorities have indicated that the massive New York Halloween parade will take place.
