Natural phenomena are the order of the day throughout the world; First there were hurricanes and the earthquake in Mexico, now a new magnitude 6.3 earthquake shook northern Chile, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
According to information from the EFE, AP and Reuters agencies, the earthquake occurred in the coastal city of Arica, near the border with Peru, at 03:32 local time and, in addition to this region, it was felt in Parinacota, Tarapacá and Antofagasta. Although so far there have been no reports of material damage or lives to regret, many people suffered from nervous breakdowns that were treated in hospitals near the aforementioned areas.
The National Emergency Office (Onemi) announced that the cause of the tremor was due to the landslide of rocks in the coastal area, which affected three tracks. Despite the movement, the USGS has already ruled out any possibility of a Tsunami, which prevents the risk of any affectation in the country.
For its part, the University of Chile reports that several aftershocks ranging from 3.1 to 4.8 degrees of magnitude have been presented.
On February 27, 2010, an earthquake of 8.8 degrees with a duration of three minutes, occurred in this nation causing tragedies in six southern and central regions. There were 525 dead, 25 missing and more than 800,000 victims. The losses were millions. In April and September 2014, there were two more telluric movements, one of 8.2 and the other of 8.4, respectively, which once again caused material damage and thousands of victims.
