The tragedy caused by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami on September 28 in Indonesia seems not to end. According to recent reports from the authorities of the Asian country, it is revealed that at least 5,000 people have been reported missing.
So far there is talk of a total of 1,763 deaths after the 7.5 earthquake on the Richter seismological scale and which has become one of the worst natural catastrophes in recent years.
Almost two weeks after the tragedy, the situation of the community in some of the most affected regions continues to steal the attention of the entire world. As revealed by CNN through its online site, in addition to the alarming number of deaths and disappearances, now there is also the humanitarian crisis generated by the more than 62,000 people who were displaced after losing everything.
Around 82,000 civilians and military work in the rescue efforts, which are hampered every day by the constant danger generated by the aftershocks that occurred after the earthquake. 451 minor earthquakes have been reported in Indonesia after September 28.
Additionally, the danger does not end for the inhabitants of the regions most affected by the earthquake, since in recent days they have experienced a strange phenomenon known as soil liquefaction, due to the saturation of water in the terrain created by the tsunami. What appears to be firm ground suddenly turns into a river, causing thousands of houses and buildings to collapse.
In the same way that it happened on December 26, 2004, after the strong earthquake, a powerful tsunami was unleashed that devastated several coastal populations on the Asian island. In that year, the balance of fatalities reached 227,898.
