Priest Resigns After Reporting That He Is The Father Of Two Children

After reporting that he had become a father for the second time, the priest Óscar Turrión decided to renounce this sacrament and his position as rector. This was announced by the Office of International Communication of the Legionaries of Christ, according to the Catholic media ACI Prensa.

"[Turrión] informed the superiors that he had just had a daughter," said the official statement. "He asked that a reservation be kept."

The priest became the father of a girl on March 27; However, he was already the father of a first child with the same woman, who was born years before. Therefore, he requested his discharge as a representative of the Catholic Church and as rector of the Pontifical International Maria Mater Ecclesiae College in Rome.

"Upon learning of this fact, the superiors proceeded to request the Holy See to appoint a new rector of the seminary, who began his term in August," the statement added.

The ecclesiastic, in the first instance, asked for "permission to spend time outside the community to reflect and pray" with the "restriction of not exercising the priestly ministry in public." But, on October 5, he made it known that he wanted to abandon this sacrament and requested a “dispensation from the obligations” that confer upon his ordination.

Óscar Turrión thanked the trust placed in him when he held the position at the school. While the Legionaries regretted what happened and express their commitment "on the path of renewal that we continue to walk hand in hand with the Church".
