Two bank accounts of the Mexican soccer player Rafa Márquez have been thawed or released by the Mexican justice system, after they were frozen after his name, appearing on a list of the United States Department of the Treasury as the alleged figurehead of a powerful Mexican kingpin; in other words, drug trafficking.
The news published by the newspaper El País indicates that the Mexican Attorney General's Office secured two of the player's companies after being designated by the United States Treasury Department as a drug trafficker. What does this mean? That provisionally the soccer player can make use of his bank accounts. Likewise, it is clear that with this measure, the two companies of Márquez may restart their operations. These companies are Hormaral Therapeutic Group and Prosport Healt Image.
However, the same newspaper explains that Márquez is still under investigation. The judge who saw the case, Luz María Ortega, also urged the PGR to "close the initial investigation and granted the guarantee of hearing to the still Atlas club footballer."
The note from El País states that when the United States Treasury Department included the name of the famous player in a list of people allegedly involved in a money laundering network, Márquez stood up to these accusations. In fact, the newspaper details that he voluntarily went to make his statement to the offices of the Prosecutor, and later, offered statements to the press. Márquez denies any link to drug trafficking.
