Wichita, Kansas, police made the macabre discovery of the remains of a 3-year-old boy who was buried in cement and that they belonged to a minor who disappeared in July.

The discovery was made this Saturday when a landlord was cleaning the house that he had rented to a couple. The man called the police, complaining that he had found a strange concrete structure in the house and that it gave off a bad smell.

Sedgwick County authorities immediately mobilized to investigate the case and discover that the remains of a minor were inside the concrete block.

Now authorities suspect it is the 3-year-old Evan Brewer, who went missing on July 6. The boy vanished when his father petitioned the family court for a custody order, suspecting that the boy's mother and boyfriend were abusing him.

According to Wichita police, Carlo Brewer, the boy's father, had been worried for months about his son, who lived with his mother, Miranda Miller, 36, and her boyfriend, Stephen Bodine, 40.

The Kansas Department of Children's Services (DCF) began an investigation and issued a child protection order in favor of his father, but when they tried to deliver the order to the mother, the boy disappeared.
