Police found the remains of a missing mother in California and point to her husband Anthony Gumina, 44, as possibly responsible for the crime. "Heather Gumina's missing person case has now become a homicide investigation," says a message from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office shared on social media. "It is the worst nightmare in the world," Joanna Russell, Heather's mother, told KTXL station. “My daughter was one of the most generous and loyal people I have ever met. I will be mourning her loss for a long time.”
Heather, 33, was the mother of three children and was reported missing on July 19. The woman had not been seen since July 16, when she left a hospital where she had been treated for having a broken clavicle. Authorities announced they were searching for Heather and her 2005 black Infinti car that they thought she was driving. However they found the abandoned vehicle and she still did not appear.
Last Friday the police arrested her husband Anthony Gumina, who had an arrest warrant for domestic violence. Authorities also searched an area of Pleasant Valley where they found Heather's remains. Anthony faces first-degree murder charges and is in the El Dorado County Jail without bond. "It will be very difficult to live without him," added Heather's mother, "but I know he is already in heaven."
