An untimely tweet again cost its creator dearly. This time it was to a professor at the University of Tampa, who lost his job for calling Hurricane Harvey a "karma" response to Texas for voting Republican, according to the Tampa Bay Time newspaper s,
As the hurricane ravaged Texas on Sunday, assistant professor of sociology Kenneth Storey said: “I don't believe in instant karma, but it's kind of what it's like in Texas. I hope this helps them realize that the [Republican Party] doesn't care about them."
To that message he added another in which he indicated that even “good” Texans had their share of the blame. "Good people need to do more to stop the evil their state is pushing, I'm only blaming those who support the Republican Party there."
Due to the whirlwind of reactions that his writings unleashed, the professor had to issue a public apology for that same social network. He also deleted the original messages. But it was too late: the public had already sent them to the university authorities. Also their complaints.
The university announced Tuesday that it not only failed Storey's messages and did not share it, but that he had been fired. "His words," said the educational entity through a statement, "do not reflect the opinions or values of the UT community."
The text added that his thoughts and prayers go to "those who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey."
