At least three doctors were wounded during a shooting at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in The Bronx. So far, the police have no information on the condition of the doctors, nor on the exact number of the wounded. However, it was revealed that the gunman is dead in the hospital center. According to the authorities, the gunman has been identified as Henry Bello, and on the site of the institution he is registered as a hospital doctor.
In a radio broadcast, the police described the assailant as a tall, thin man wearing a blue shirt and a white lab coat. A policeman said he had a long gun. "[It appears he was] a hospital employee, that's what we're hearing, unconfirmed, at the moment," an official told The New York Times.
The victims were on the 16th and 17th floors of the medical institution. At 3:30 in the afternoon, the section of the hospital where the injured doctors were kept was protected while the police entered the building to a group of heavily armed emergency service workers.
Inside the hospital's pediatric unit, a woman who declined to give her name answered the phone, saying that she and others were sheltering there. “We just stay safe, we are fine. We all have to feel tense about the situation,”the woman told The New York Times. "We have no idea what is going on."
