Man Shoots His Daughter Dead, Then Kills Himself

Carlos García, a Hispanic father, shot his 7-year-old daughter to death and then killed himself. The 36-year-old man committed the act in the Capitola Mall parking lot in California on Sunday.

Santa Cruz authorities arrived on the scene after Garcia's wife called 911 and told them that her husband was threatening to kill himself. The woman gave them the location of the car and when they arrived they found Garcia and his daughter bloodied, with fatal gunshot wounds.

According to a report on channel 7 of the ABC chain in California, the family was in the shopping center and the mother called the police when she saw that the father took the girl to the vehicle and displayed suicidal behavior.

"What we know so far is that the family spent time in the mall," said Police Chief Terry McManus. "Then the father walked outside the mall with his seven-year-old daughter, and the mother worried, as I mentioned, that he might be suicidal and called the police." The deaths are still under investigation and the tragedy leaves many questions unanswered.
