A Texas mother who had recently purchased a gun managed to save her two children by shooting two subjects who attempted to steal them from her car.

The incident occurred this Wednesday, July 4 at 10:00 pm at a Shell gas station in Dallas, Texas. According to local police, Michelle Booker-Hicks, was at that location paying when suddenly an employee alerted her that a subject had mounted his car. In the back seats were her 2 and 4 year olds.

The woman reacted instantly and climbed into the vehicle in a hurry. From the glove compartment of the car she took out a revolver and shot the subject twice in the face to stop her.

The man collided with a light pole and was later transferred to a hospital in custody of the authorities and identified as Ricky Wright, 36.

"I proceeded to jump into the back seat and told the gentleman to stop," the woman exclaimed to the local FOX-4 station. "She didn't get out of the car and just turned to look at me."

"[Then] I reached for the armrest to reach the glove compartment and that's when I shot him as soon as I got the gun out of the compartment," said the woman, who had recently obtained the weapon to defend herself, according to herself.

Booker-Hicks admitted that he did not yet have a license to carry the gun, however in the state of Texas it is permissible to carry weapons without a license as long as they remain inside a vehicle.

Wright remains in serious but stable condition and in the custody of the authorities. Against him are charges of illegal deprivation of liberty and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The man has a long criminal history and has been arrested on at least 20 occasions on charges including possession of marijuana, evading arrest, assault and robbery.

"I was not necessarily worried about my car," said the mother after what happened. “What worried me was my children. I had to do whatever it took to defend mine, and that's my children. " There is no doubt: this is a woman to take arms.
