The building of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) and the Venezuelan Interior Ministry was the scene on Tuesday of an impressive attack in which a group of armed men threw a series of shots and grenades from a helicopter, causing panic in the capital of the country, Caracas.
According to various reports, the vehicle was hijacked and belonged to the Corps of Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations (CICPC).
The events occurred in the afternoon while the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, was at the Miraflores Palace in the capital, participating in the delivery of the National Journalism Prize.
The first investigations and a video published on social networks determined that the director of the attack was a man named Oscar Pérez, ex-pilot of the former interior minister.
In the clip, entitled "Today we declare ourselves enemies of Maduro", the pilot appears dressed in a green uniform and surrounded by four heavily armed subjects and covered with masks to hide their identity. "We are carrying out an air-land deployment with the sole purpose of returning power to the democratic people," Pérez said in part of his message.
Photos published by residents of the capital showed the blue aircraft with a blanket hanging on its side that said: "350 Libertad", referring to an article in the Venezuelan constitution that allows citizens to rebel against the government, if it attacks against its democratic principles.
After the attack, which according to witnesses lasted approximately 2 hours, the helicopter left the area with an unknown direction. Until now his whereabouts or that of his crew is unknown.
President Maduro immediately condemned the attack.
