Social networks are ablaze with comments from people furious at the election this year of Miss Costa Rica, who, according to them, was given by "finger." It turns out that instead of the traditional contest to choose the beauty queen who will represent that country in the Miss Universe 2017 contest, her selection was made by the owners of the franchise of that event, the company Teletica.

Thus, the chosen as Miss Costa Rica 2017 is Elena Correa, first finalist of the previous year - behind Miss Costa Rica 2016, Carolina Rodríguez.

The decision - which is already official - was made after a series of rumors on the Internet that ensured that the television station in charge of the event did not want to organize the beauty pageant to choose its representative in the Miss Universe pageant.

Finally, René Picado Cozza, president of Channel 7 that belongs to Teletica, confirmed to the newspaper La Nación that this year the company prefers to give priority to the sports and political commitments that will be made in the coming months than to do the contest. This unleashed the fury of some Costa Ricans who do not stop demonstrating their disagreement on the networks.

The manager commented that his company is too busy with other programs not only with the pre-World Cup matches, but also with the Gold Cup, the Confederations Cup, the start of the national championship and additionally, with the pre-electoral coverage. The dates of Miss Universe vary, we understand that there are possibilities that Miss Universe will be in November or December, and it is very difficult for us to organize something as it should with such a narrow margin”.

Explaining how they concluded that Correa was the ideal representative to represent Costa Rica in this world event, Picado Cozza said that in addition to being the first viceroy, she "meets all the desirable requirements to represent us." She also stressed that she is "a very pretty, educated, cultured, pleasant girl."

For his part, Correa, who at the age of 26 studies two careers at the same time, medicine and business administration, spoke in favor of free expression, even if it rains criticism. “People always have the right to speak what they really feel or want to say. We are in a country of free expression, "he said. "For my part, I am too happy and surprised by this great news."
