A 5-year-old boy died Monday in Arkansas, after being taken to the nursery in a van by those responsible for leaving him abandoned in the vehicle all day and in high temperatures.

According to West Memphis police spokesmen, the little boy was picked up from his home before 7:00 am to go to daycare. It is believed that the boy fell asleep in his child seat and when they arrived at the campus, the managers forgot to lower him, leaving him inside the vehicle that was in the parking lot of Ascent Day Child Care, the institution where the minor went.

At around 3:00 pm, when it was time to go home, staff at the children's center found the boy dead, still sitting in his booster seat. The police were immediately called.

The little boy's shattered mother declined to comment, but according to local station CNM-affiliated WMC, around 6:30 a.m. the mother had signed a paper stating that her son had been picked up and was aboard the van.. It is estimated that the minor arrived at the campus parking lot at around 7:15 am and from that moment remained in the vehicle.

"You can see how my grandson suffered inside that van," the boy's grandmother, Carrie Smith, who is responsible for picking up the little boy every day when he returned home, told WMC. "This is not OK".

Temperatures in Arkansas reached 80 degrees on Monday, which could cause the interior of the van where the minor was located to reach at least 114 degrees Fahrenheit just 30 minutes after being parked. However, investigators in charge of the case assure that in this case, the van reached 141 degrees at the highest point of the heat.

According to ActionNews5.com, Ascent Day Child Care has no history of complaints. "Something must have distracted them so as not to have seen the child all day," a former employee of the kindergarten told the station, who spoke in anonymity. "They always go and check and check again, go out and check again," he said.

Both the West Memphis Police and the Arkansas Department of Human Services opened an investigation into the events to determine the reason for the events.
