Johan Sebastián Rugeles was killed by the people who were supposed to protect him. The 7-year-old Colombian boy died at the hands of his own mother and older brother. The little boy was suffocated so that he did not tell a dark family secret.

The little one - one of four brothers - lived between the houses of his father, Orlando Rugeles, and his mother María Eugenia García, who had been separated for years. On August 19, 2014 the mother said that she had taken the boy to school, but when the father went to pick him up, they informed him that he was not there. The little boy was reported missing. The police searched for him with no luck. His mother, with the help of a nephew, found Johan's corpse in an empty lot under a tree.

Wilmer Rugeles, his older brother, spoke tearfully to the press about Johan's death. "He had a cord tied around his neck, they tortured him," he said then. The police continued investigating as it seemed strange to them that the mother had found the corpse with such precision. A video from a security camera showed that the mother did not take the child to school the day he disappeared.

When the mother was arrested and she confessed to having committed the crime, Johan's father committed suicide. Before killing himself, the father confessed to his sister (the boy's aunt) a dark family secret. Wilmer, his eldest son, had raped one of his young daughters and Johan had been a witness. The boy told his mother about the abuse he witnessed and Wilmer went to jail for the rape of his sister. After serving his sentence, he planned his revenge against his brother Johan, with the help of his mother.

Maria Eugenia admitted that she committed the murder with Wilmer's help. They are both in jail and were sentenced to 35 years in prison.
