Mother Arrested For Locking Her Children In The Trunk Of Her Car

A Utah state resident was arrested after leaving her two young children locked in the trunk of her car, while she was shopping at a Rivermart city Walmart store.

According to a report released by the Daily News website, the children's mother, identified as Tori Castillo, left her 2- and 5-year-olds in the compartment of their sedan-style Chevrolet just before entering the store.

Charity Maw, one of the people passing by, heard desperate screams of a girl calling for help and noises from inside the trunk of a vehicle. "Let me out, I'm scared!" The girl screamed, she said. "I was shocked and furious," added Maw of her reaction to the unusual situation.

With the help of some citizens, the children could be rescued from inside the car, from which they came out completely terrified and with tears in their eyes, added information shared in a report from the Good 4 Utah website.

“It is not okay to lock or leave a child alone in a vehicle or trunk. There are many things that can go wrong,”said local police Lt. Casey Warren. Following the incident, Castillo was arrested and transferred to a local jail, where she faces charges of child abuse.

The police officers in charge of the case alleged that the children were handed over to their father, further revealing that the Department of Children and Family Services would be investigating the situation of the children.
