A crowd set fire to a man in Caracas during one of the massive opposition marches against the regime of President Nicolás Maduro.
The images that have come from the incident that occurred last Sunday show crudely the victim, identified as Orlando Figueroa, taking a beating in the middle of a crowd and even several stab wounds. Suddenly a subject appears, spraying it with fuel and setting it on fire.
According to CNN in Spanish, the Venezuelan Ministry of the Interior and Justice reported that the 21-year-old survived the attack, but has burns to 80 percent of his body.
There is still no clear explanation of the motives behind the savage assault. According to various media, Figueroa indicated that a group of people who had used narcotic substances hit him with sharp weapons and threw gasoline all over his body.
The government has not hesitated to blame the opposition for the incident, which is being investigated by the prosecution. President Maduro himself assured that Figueroa was attacked because they accused him of being a Chavista and a thief.
Since the start of the opposition mobilizations, at least 48 dead and hundreds of wounded have been registered, while some 2,200 people have been detained by the authorities, according to the France-Press agency.
