A woman in Galveston, Texas, turned herself in to authorities after setting her ex-partner on fire last week, for which she has been charged with aggravated assault.
The Houston Chronicle newspaper reported that on November 29, Nancy Allen, 50, went to the apartment of her ex-boyfriend, Thelonious Haley, and engaged in a heated argument with him and his current partner, who threw an angry can at him of beer. Then Haley kicked her off her property.
Allen then cut their electrical supply twice by tampering with the property's fuse box. The second time, when Haley went out to try to restore the light, her ex-partner set her on fire.
Galveston Police Captain Joshua Schirard explained that the only thing the victim remembers was how a fireball was thrown at him. "They sprayed it with some kind of accelerant and then set it on fire."
It was the same assailant who called the emergency service and, according to the recording, he sounded remarkably calm when he asked for help: "Hey, someone just set me on fire," he said. Upon arrival, police found a bucket, a rag soaked in fuel, and a lighter at the crime scene. Haley identified Allen as the assailant.
The victim suffered severe burns to the face, neck, arm and hands. As for Allen, a judge bailed him $ 250,000.
