The three suspected of murdering nurse Maritza Rodríguez González in Puerto Rico will have to go to a judge next week after sufficient reasons are found to order their arrest as responsible for a crime that has shocked the island.

Guillermo Cummings Irizarry, 57 years old; his son Guillermo Cummings Vélez, 22; and the wife of the latter Yamaris Lugo Rivera, 29, were charged last Friday with the charges of "murder in the first degree, by mutual consent and destruction of evidence" in relation to the death of Rodríguez, whose body was found last week in a river in the municipality of Hormigueros, In addition, Cummings Vélez was added the crime of illegal appropriation, according to Sgt. Julio Matos Gotay, director of the CIC Division of Mayaguez, to the Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora.

Judge María del Pilar Vázquez Muñiz set the defendants bail from the press secretary of Puerto Rico's Secretary of Justice, Wanda Vázquez. "The family of Maritza Rodríguez Morales has our solidarity and support in these moments of great sadness."

Police investigations point to a possible motive for the crime that the victim participated in a complaint of child abuse towards a minor who was later removed from the home of the accused.

Rodriguez Morales, who was 24 years old and the mother of a 5-year-old boy, worked for the Like Family Home Care company, subcontracted by the federal Veterans Administration.
