A Hispanic family in the Bronx calls for justice for a man who died after receiving electrical charges from a taser gun fired by police, in what the medical examiner called a homicide.

Ariel Galarza died on November 2 after receiving several times the impact of the New York Police Department's Sergeant William Melrose's electric weapon.

Now, his sister Mildred Galarza is seeking justice in a lawsuit brought against the authorities in which he claims compensation for an emotionally disturbed person carrying a knife.

What Galarza, 49, was holding was a bottle of hot sauce. The neighbor later admitted that she was not in good sight and regretted the mistake.

Galarza, who suffered from asthma and an intellectual disability, went into cardiac arrest after receiving two electrical shocks.

"The family now awaits the conclusion of the ongoing investigation by the Attorney General's office into a possible criminal element in this wrongful death," Galarzas attorney Sanford Rubenstein said, referring to the investigation opened by authorities to determine whether Sergeant Melrose committed a crime.
