An 85-year-old granny was trapped on a steep, mountainous road for five days after taking the wrong route back home to Akron, Colorado. Miraculously, she survived thanks to her brave spirit and witty character.

Ruby Stein's odyssey began on March 21 when she was returning, along with her beloved cat, from visiting her granddaughter and her car got stuck on a snowy road. She honked and honked, but sadly no one heard her. Eventually her car ran out of battery and on top of that her cell phone stopped working as the snow kept falling.

The outlook was not encouraging, but the brave old woman rationed her food: she only ate two bits of Rice Krispies each day and drank water from the melted snow to survive. Her optimism was also crucial, because according to The Denver Post, when her snacks were running out, she thought that "it could be a good thing" - she was already eyeing the foliage of the mountains or "something else to eat." To combat the cold, she used some clothes that she had in the trunk of her car.

Although the snow began to cover her 2007 Nissan Sentra car, Stein was able to stay calm because she knew she only had two options: either she got out of it or not, and she was going to fight for the second for her family.

Fortunately, five days after she was lost, a couple who was hiking around the place saw her car and came up to ask if she was okay. "No, I'm not fine," replied the old woman.

After his rescue, Stein, who has five children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, has said he still does not plan to stop driving.
