A simple mistake with a number is all that was enough for Nigel Lang to live a real nightmare that ruined the villa when he was accused of sharing child pornography in South Yorkshire, Great Britain.

According to a BBC show, police came to his house one day in 2011 by surprise to arrest him for sharing indecent photos of children. Panic washed over him, even though he knew he was innocent.

South Yorkshire police - on a false trail from the Hertfordshire police - had identified him by following an IP internet address from which they had shared over a hundred images of child sexual content.

The problem is that the real address corresponded to an internet account of a coworker from Nigel, but the police had mistakenly entered an extra digit and the one they found was Lang's. So there was a knock on her door.

After investigating him for three weeks, authorities realized his mistake and returned the computer to him. Although his innocence was eventually proven, the damage to his reputation and his life had already been done.

Lang assured that the experience has left him psychological consequences, which make him fear all the time that he may be accused again of things he has not done. "It made me paranoid," said the man, whose personal and professional life did not recover from the event.

Hertfordshire police apologized in writing for the mistake in 2014 and the man went to court to demand financial compensation. Two years later they reached an out-of-court settlement for which he received about $ 74,000, plus legal fees.

"Money is not enough," said Lang, "but after six years of fighting you are already tired."
